"Fleeting Heat" Editorial - Featured by Lucy's Magazine
September 2nd, 2018
Having your photos published or featured is always an amazing feeling, especially when the magazine featuring your photos is one of your favourites!
Being featured at Lucy’s Magazine has been a goal of mine for a while - I’ve always loved the images they choose to feature and their aesthetic, so I was very pleased that my newest beauty editorial was chosen to be featured on their website as a webitorial this past week!
My creative team for this shoot was MUA Yelena Perunova, hair stylist Erum Sheikh and retoucher Erin O’Connor. Our beautiful model Bea was sent to us from Key Model Management. Yelena and Erum had approached me with a makeup and hair concept and together we worked together to finalize the theme and how it should look. We really wanted to focus on pops of colour with bright, fresh skin, wispy hair and they did an amazing job bringing it to life. It always helps to have a model with amazing skin tone and texture and Bea’s skin was amazing to work with. Here’s a closeup screen shot of her beautiful glowing skin and the amazing natural makeup that Yelena did on her for the first look we shot! Check out those wispy strands by Erum as well:
I have really been wanting to step up my beauty game so for this shoot I totally changed up the lighting I normally use. A few months ago I had purchased a silver 64” PLM with a diffusion panel from Paul C Buff for my Alien Bee light, and I thought I would try it for this shoot instead of my beauty dish that I normally use when shooting beauty. I think the lighting turned out beautiful and I can’t wait to use it again on another shoot! It really brought out the highlights in the makeup and didn’t produce the dramatic shadows that the beauty dish normally gives me on the background. I also think this was the easiest light setup I’ve ever used!
Here is a diagram of my setup below:
We ended up shooting 5 looks total and I don’t think I can pick a favourite. Although blue IS my favourite colour so I might be a tiny bit partial to this blue eyeliner look… and I may also be tempted now to try blue eyeliner on myself!
Here is the complete list of gear I used for this shoot:
- Nikon d800
- Nikon 85mm f1.8
- One Alien Bee B800
- 53" Savage Universal seamless background in "Slate Grey".
- 64" Silver PLM with diffusion panel by Paul C Buff
- 32" white&silver reflector by LiteDisc (I used the white side).
And the technical details:
- Tethered using Capture One 11.
- Shot at ISO 100, f8, 1/125s.
- Colour toned with Infinite Color Panel
